Wagonhound Land and Livestock to Hold Production Sale September 6-7
In September 2013, Wagonhound Land and Livestock will hold a production sale, and the public will have the opportunity to purchase horses with some of the top bloodlines in the American Quarter Horse industry. First used in the Wyoming territory, the Wagonhound brand has become synonymous with quality and top performance in the equine industry.
Approximately 100 head of broke ranch geldings, broodmares, 2-year-olds, yearlings and weanling American Quarter Horses will be offered September 7 at the ranch in Douglas, Wyoming. A preview of the outstanding individuals being offered at the auction will be held September 6 at Wagonhound Land and Livestock.
The Wagonhound Land and Livestock horse breeding program’s goal is to raise high-quality ranch horses for the Wagonhound cowboys’ use and that of the public. The strong, well-proven American Quarter Horse pedigrees within the Wagonhound breeding program routinely produce ranch horses and performance horses with the ability and talent to compete successfully in the most prestigious cutting, reining, reined cow horse and ranch competitions.
In addition to the top-quality horses offered by the Wagonhound, the famed Four Sixes Ranch will also be a guest consignor at the September 7 sale. The Four Sixes Ranch, an AQHA Best Remuda Award winner, will offer approximately 10 head of outstanding American Quarter Horses at the sale.
“After several years of building our remuda with some of the top bloodlines in the equine industry and campaigning our homebreds, we are ready to offer some of the top horses from our remuda in our first production sale,” said Wagonhound Land and Livestock owner Art Nicholas. “We are excited to see the success that these individuals will have in the future and look forward to seeing them carry on the Wagonhound legacy.”
While Wagonhound’s American Quarter Horses have become sought-after for competitions and ranch work, the sale will also feature some of the ranch’s other well-known livestock. Approximately 100 head of bred Red Angus commercial heifers will be offered at auction September 7.
Wagonhound is known as one of the finest commercial Red Angus producers in the market. These 100 top females will be chosen from the ranch’s foundation 2,500 head herd. The Wagonhound’s cattle are selected and managed to produce high-quality replacement heifers and the highest grade beef.
All horse and cattle buyers at the sale will be eligible for a drawing to win one of three Tim Cox prints. Among Tim’s many awards and accolades are the 2003 Prix de West Award and two “Express Ranches Great American Cowboy Awards” from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Tim is a past president of the Cowboy Artists of America, and his western art is known around the world. (Must be present to win.)
As an added bonus for the top 10 buyers at the sale, a custom Cary Schwarz saddle will be presented to the winner of a drawing with the top 10 buyers’ names being placed in the drawing. The top-10 buyers will be determined by total sales amount on all horses purchased. (Must be present to win.)

About the Wagonhound
Wagonhound Land and Livestock’s roots go back to the 1800s when the cattle drives came up from Texas and the pioneers traveled through on the Oregon Trail. Many wagons, as they crossed the creeks, broke their “hounds,” which is the under part of the wagon that connects the tongue and axle to the reach allowing the wagon to turn. A tough-to-cross creek became known as Wagonhound Creek due to all the broken hounds, and this part of the ranch became Wagonhound Land and Livestock, a name that now applies to the entire ranch. The ranch’s brand, “quarter circle, bar, quarter circle,” is a territorial brand that loosely resembles the wagon’s “hound.”
Located along Wyoming’s Laramie Range, the east edge of the Rocky Mountains, the ranch consists of 200,000 acres with an elevation varying from 5,000 to 9,000 feet. The cattle consist of high quality commercial Red Angus raised from the industry’s most popular bloodlines and includes a substantial herd of “All Natural Beef.” Wagonhound’s well-respected registered American Quarter Horse remuda comes from championship stock including their own NCHA Futurity, Derby, Classic and Finals Champion Little Tenina, and NCHA World Show Champion WR This Cats Smart. The farming operation produces and sells some of the country’s highest quality alfalfa hay with 30 center pivots providing precise on-demand rain. Diverse wildlife populations, anchored by trophy elk, provide a unique hunting experience for Wagonhound’s outfitting clients.
